Root Canal Treatment

Preserve Your Natural Tooth with Endodontic Care

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection or inflammation affecting the soft tissue inside a tooth, known as the dental pulp. It may be recommended when deep decay, cracks, trauma, or repeated dental procedures cause irreversible pulp damage.

At OM STAR DENTAL CLINIC, patients receive a clinical assessment to determine whether root canal treatment is appropriate and to understand the options available for preserving the affected tooth.

Signs You May Need Root Canal Treatment

Symptoms can vary depending on the extent of the damage. Common warning signs include:

  • Persistent or spontaneous toothache

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers

  • Pain while biting or chewing

  • Swelling or tenderness around the affected tooth

  • Darkening or discolouration of a tooth

  • A gum swelling or draining sinus near the tooth

Some teeth with pulp damage may produce few or no symptoms. A dental examination is therefore important when a problem is suspected.

How Root Canal Treatment Works

The treatment process generally involves several stages:

1. Examination and diagnosis

The dentist reviews symptoms, examines the tooth, and may take dental X-rays to assess the roots and surrounding tissues.

2. Accessing the affected pulp

Local anaesthesia is usually administered. The dentist creates an opening in the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals.

3. Cleaning and shaping

Damaged or infected pulp tissue is removed, and the root canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected.

4. Filling and sealing

The cleaned canals are filled with a suitable material and sealed to reduce the risk of reinfection.

5. Final restoration

Depending on the tooth’s condition, a permanent filling or dental crown may be recommended to restore strength and function.

Does Root Canal Treatment Hurt?

Local anaesthesia is used to minimise pain during treatment. Some tenderness may occur afterward, but it generally improves as healing progresses. Persistent or worsening symptoms require reassessment.

Protecting Your Treated Tooth

Maintaining good oral hygiene, attending follow-up visits, and completing the recommended restoration are important for long-term success.

At OM STAR DENTAL CLINIC, the goal is to relieve symptoms, address the underlying problem, and preserve the natural tooth whenever a predictable outcome is possible.
