Laser Dentistry

Modern Dental Care Using Laser Technology

Laser dentistry uses focused light energy for selected dental procedures involving soft tissues and, in certain applications, hard tissues. It can support specific treatments with controlled tissue interaction when used by appropriately trained professionals.

OM STAR DENTAL CLINIC is equipped with a soft-tissue diode laser unit for suitable procedures. Dr. Naveen Mynam and the clinical team assess each patient’s dental condition before determining whether laser-assisted treatment is appropriate.

What Is a Diode Laser Used For?

Soft-tissue diode lasers are commonly used for selected procedures involving the gums and other oral soft tissues. Depending on the clinical indication and equipment capabilities, applications may include:

  • Selected gum contouring procedures

  • Management of certain soft-tissue overgrowths

  • Frenectomy procedures in appropriate cases

  • Soft-tissue procedures performed alongside other dental treatments

  • Selected periodontal and oral soft-tissue applications

Not every dental procedure requires a laser. Conventional instruments remain appropriate and necessary for many treatments.

Potential Benefits of Laser-Assisted Treatment

When clinically indicated, laser dentistry may offer several advantages:

  • Controlled treatment of selected soft tissues

  • Reduced bleeding during certain procedures

  • Less need for sutures in some cases

  • Improved access to specific treatment areas

  • Potentially comfortable recovery for selected procedures

The benefits depend on the procedure, the patient’s condition, the laser settings, and the clinician’s expertise. Laser dentistry does not eliminate discomfort or healing time in every case.

What to Expect During Treatment

The dentist first examines the affected area and explains the recommended procedure. Protective measures, including appropriate eye protection, are used during laser treatment.

Local anaesthesia may still be required depending on the procedure and individual sensitivity. Following treatment, patients receive instructions about oral hygiene, eating, medication where prescribed, and follow-up visits.

Is Laser Dentistry Right for You?

Laser-assisted treatment is not suitable for every dental concern. The choice between laser and conventional techniques depends on the diagnosis, treatment objectives, and available clinical evidence.

At OM STAR DENTAL CLINIC, our focus is on choosing an appropriate technique for each patient rather than using technology where it offers no clear clinical advantage.
